2005 Event Summary

On August 20th, 2005 over 90 golfers competed in the 4th Annual Fight From The Fairway. The mulligan string brought a new twist to the event. Two teams tied at an incredible 19 under par. The tie breaker was who had the longer piece of string left. A hole in one was missed by inches and Bob Magee missed winning $10,000 on a 50 -footer by about 15 inches.  Bob holed the 30-footer semi-final putt to take his shot. See below for a list of all winners.

The weather forecast was not very good to start the day. However, the rain held out until the final two holes when the sky opened and the rain came pouring down. When it finally stopped 45 minutes later, the course looked like a river and the event was called. Over 90 golfers still had a great time of golf, beer and food with family and friends!

The rain did not stop the $10,000 putting contest. Over 20 players made the first 15 foot putt to enter the second round. Only Mike Boas and Aly Valentine made the 30 footer. Aly then edged Mike on a putt off to make the finals. Aly was a little long on the 50 foot attempt that would have earned her $10,000! However, she still earned a consolation prize of a $100 gift certificate.

With the soft green conditions, many low scores were posted. The team of Brian Magee, Jim Magee, Bob Magee and Matt Beatty came in first at 11 under par for 16 holes to win $50 gift certificates per player. The team of Lawrence Kiey, Mike Boas, Jim Boas and Bob Hackett were second at 10 under par for 16 holes. The  second place team won half the $900 from 50/50 challenge since the low team did not enter. This was an optional $100 per team challenge and nine teams participated. This also raised $450 for the charity.  Additionally, a portion of the winnings by the first place team were donated back to the charity.

Our local celebrity,  Karen Thomas (from Fox News in Philadelphia) selected Jose Dela Portilla from 300 names to win the grand prize of a trip to Disney World. Non-golfers were eligible through the sale of raffle tickets.
