Memory

My dear twin sister Karen, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2008. She was such an inspiration to me and so many. It is the Fight From the Fairway Committee's hope that this tournament will help to keep her memory alive and help find a cure to this disease that has affected so many lives.- Kathy

Memory

My grandmother, Irene, passed away due to complications with breast cancer nearly 10 years ago. She had had non-hodgkins lymphoma probably 10-15 years before that, and won that fight. Unfortunately, she was not as fortunate with the breast cancer. I remember when my grandmother lost her hair the 2nd time around, she was about 76 and still had plenty of life left in her. She borrowed wigs from a great aunt of mine, whose hair had a more distinctive stile, let's say. It just didn't look natural on her. When she would take off her wig, she revealed a new crop of grey short hair that looked natural and actually kind of hip. We told her the keep the wig off because she looked better that way; I think she mostly did after that. I also remember taking her for a riverboat brunch cruise for her birthday, which somehow we knew would be her last. She looked tired and sad. I just wanted to hug her. Now, I'm happy I have that memory, because our entire family was there.

My sister, affectionately known as Cat, was the best sister ever. She gave birth to twins, 11 months before her battle was over on May 19, 1986. I still think of her often and miss her dearly.
